Description

An area of possible coprolite extraction of post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 330m south of the Grand Junction Canal, west of the road from Buckland, and centred at SP 87984 13562. A small scale plan in O’Connor, 1990, p77, shows sites to the north and south of the Grand Junction Canal and the location is described as on the road leading north west from Buckland on p84. More detailed evidence from aerial photographs shows ditches or trenches within ridge and furrow earthworks here rather than where previously recorded (see MBC15065) and the site to the north of the canal is in Hertfordshire at Puttenham. The area today lies underneath warehouses at an industrial site, constructed from 2012. (1-4)
