Description
A rectilinear ditched enclosure of uncertain date and function is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the N bank of the River Thame about 590 metres NE of Hale Farm and centred at SP 6439 16790, a rectangular ditch up to 2.5 metres wide encloses a rectangular area about 45 metres NW-SE and 37.5 metres SW-NE. The W facing corner of the enclosure ditch appears to be truncated by a post-medieval drainage system ditch. The earthworks are only visible on aerial photographs taken in 1945. By 1949 the area appears to have been ploughed the earthworks are visible in available aerial photography taken in the subsequent decades thereafter. On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, the features are not visible (1-4).
