Description

An Iron Age and/or Roman square ditched enclosure is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 390 metres N of Broadmead Farm and centred at SP 89248 18278, a ditch that varies between 4 and 8.5 metres wide forms an enclosure about 48 metres square, aligned WSW-ENE and NNW-SSE. Centred some 37 metres to the WSW of the enclosure’s WSW facing side is a linear ditch about 23.5 x 3 metres, its long side aligned NNW-SSE that may be associated with the enclosure. The enclosure is visible as an ephemeral cropmark on available aerial photographs taken in 1976 and 1993, as well as more recently in 2021 (1-3).
