Description

Three post medieval extraction pits are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field on Windmill Hill adjacent Lines Hill road and centred at SP 484036 219433, the three extraction sites are irregularly shaped and cover an area about 7,188 square metres, 2,491 square metres and 1,971 square metres. The quarries cut into blocks of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, so post-dating them (1-3).
