Monument record MBC47777 - MEDIEVAL BOUNDARY DITCHES AND PONDS, BIERTON

Medieval parallel boundary ditches and two probable ponds are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in two fields E of Parsons Lane and centred at SP 83780 15294, three parallel boundary ditches that vary between 1.6 metres and 3.3 metres wide are aligned SW-NE. Adjacent to this in a second field is fourth boundary ditch on the same alignment, linked to two small oval ponds. Visible on aerial photographs taken in 1943, by 1954 construction of new residential housing is underway, which has been completed by 1961, by which time the three ditches in the first field are no longer visible. However, on aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, the boundary ditch and ponds in the second field remain visible (1-7).
