Description

The probable site of a Second World War searchlight battery is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in fields off Burcott Lane and centred at SP 84359 15242, two opposing curving arcs of earthwork bank, each about 1.2 metres wide, encloses an internal area about 8 metres in diameter. Although the earthworks are not visible on aerial photographs taken in 1961 the field remained extant. However, by 1976 what appears to be a scrap vehicle business has covered the site with vehicles and the earthworks are not visible (1-4).
