Description

Fragmentary ditches possibly of Iron Age and/or Roman date is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 890 metres W of Fields Farm and centred at SP 80219 17198, three sections of a ditch about 0.6 metres wide extends in a broken curve from NW–SSW for about 121 metres. At the SSW end is a possible subrectangular enclosure about 30 x 14 metres at its widest points, though part of the E facing side is not visible. Aerial photographs taken in 1948 show the location of the features to be part of a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation that has been plough levelled subsequently and so pre-dates it. On aerial photographs taken in 2023, the features are not visible (1-3).
