Description

A medieval field boundary ditch is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a meadow adjacent a stream about 780 metres NW of Manor Farm in Cublington and centred at SP 83052 22519, a shallow L-shaped ditch up to 14.5 metres wide extends 138 metres ESE-WNW, before turning NNE for a further 136 metres. It seems likely that this was the field boundary for a block of ridge and furrow cultivation no longer visible by the 1940s as there are two trees shown on the 1880s dated 1st Edition OS map that stand along the course of the boundary ditch. The ditch also share the same alignments as the extant adjacent field boundaries (1).
