Description
A probable Roman subrectangular and a rectilinear ditched enclosure is visible on aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 270 metres SE of The Beeches and centred at SP 80867 22447, a subrectangular ditch up to 4.5 metres wide encloses an internal area about 95 metres WSW-ENE and up to 51 metres SSE-NNW. Within the enclosure is two pits of uncertain function. In the W half of the enclosure is a possible rectilinear ditched enclosure about 11 x 8 metres, though it is fragmentary and there is no evidence of a N facing side. A cluster of nearby find spots suggest that this enclosure is of Roman date (1-2).
