Description

A probable post medieval platform and boundary ditch is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 290 metres SW of Willow Bank Farm and centred at SP 82945 20724, a D shaped earthwork platform is about 29 metres W-E and 24 metres N-S at its widest points. Surrounding it is a boundary ditch up to 2.5 metres wide. The field in which the platform is sited does not appear to have evidence of ridge and furrow cultivation and so it is possible that the feature is of an earlier date. Its function is unclear but is possibly a stack stand, used for storing winter fodder, but this is speculative. On aerial photographs taken in 2015 the features were still visible, but by 2019 the features appear to have been levelled and are no longer visible (1-3).
