Description
A cluster of post medieval extractive pits is visible on historic aerial photograph and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 240 metres N of Hardwick Hill Farm and centred at SP 81271 20138, the seven irregularly shaped pits range in size from 38 to 1,397 square metres and cut into a block of medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, so post-dating it. On aerial photographs taken in 2022 and recent remote sensing data, the earthworks remain visible (1-3).
