Description

Faint cropmarks of curvilinear enclosures and ditches possibly later prehistoric or Roman in date which can be seen in the corner of a field on aerial photographs at SP 8148 2017. The clearest feature is that of a sub-circular ditched enclosure 25-30m in diameter. There are further fainter less easily discernable ditches and enclosures (1).

An Iron Age and/or Roman subcircular enclosure, ditches and boundary ditches are visible on aerial photographs as cropmarks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in the corner of a field about 350 metres NE of Hardwick Hill Farm and centred at SP 81486 20159, the main feature is a subcirular ditch up to 2.5 metres wide that encloses an internal area about 24 metres in diameter at its widest point. To the N and W of the enclosure are fragmentary sections of linear ditch that may represent further enclosures or other boundaries (3-4).
