Description

Western House was built in 1858-9 by David Thomas Willis, a prominent Winslow solicitor, for his daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Dr Thomas Lathan. In 1869 the house was leased or rented to Henley Greaves, and the Lathan family moved into Western Cottage, selling Western House to the Greaves family in 1885. An additional upper floor was added in 1892. Following the death of Ellen Greaves, It was offered for sale in 1937, but not bought until December 1938 by the Countess of Lathom, who demolished the house in 1939.
