Description

Dimensions - Width 45m, Length 50m.
Plan Form - Circular.
Spot called 'Isle of Rats'. Foundations of ancient buildings have been dug up (B1).
Possible moated site, area now levelled. Drainage ditch cut through centre c.1975. Ditch cut through brick structure. Single sandy C13 sherd recovered from ditch (B2).
Name 'Rat Island' confirmed (B3).

A possible moated site is visible on aerial photo AEM 18 at SP74000630, but the area has since been levelled (B4).
A rapid examination of air photography (4a) shows the settlement earthworks including the possible moated site (B5).
