Description

Drainage ditches of probable post medieval are visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the north side of Akeman Street, modern A41/Aston Clinton Road, approximately 600m west of the moated site at Vatches Farm, Weston Turville, and centred at SP 85910 12883. These ditches mat partly be remnants of a former meandering watercourse, heavily straightened and canalised by the late 19th century but sill partly visible in the 1940s. Modern land use of arable farming has levelled any remaining trace of these earthworks. Further earthworks were not mapped because they are outside of the scope of the project because they are natural features. This watercourse has been very heavily altered by straightening. (1-2)
