Type and Period (1)
- LYNCHET (Medieval - 1066 AD to 1539 AD)
Description
Lynchets of probable medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 130m west of Lodge Farm, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89437 11109. These lynchets face more lynchets on the opposite side of the small valley (see MBC47264) and measure between 8m and 17m across but these have been affected by plough levelling more than the others in the area but they are still clear as ridges on lidar visualisations. The 1945 images appear to show the golf course extended in to this area and this may have influenced the survival of these earthworks. Modern land use is pasture. (1-2)
