Description
Chalk pits and associated earth mounds of probable post medieval date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was/were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in woodland on Aston Hill, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 88792 10261. A line of small pits, ranging in size from 10m to 19m across and with possible spoil mounds in between the pits. Trackways run along both sides and further pits and trackways are recorded in the woodland nearby. Land use in the 1940s is woodland it remains the same at the time of mapping. The underlying solid geology is Chalk Rock Member Formation. (1-2)
