Description
An extractive pit of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located within Halton Woods, Halton, and centred at SP 88208 10504. The extractive pit is approximately 350m east of Marl Copse and measures 103x55m at its largest. The underlying solid geology is West Melbury Marly Chalk which is mainly used for beer stone, clunch and lime. Land use in 1945 is woodland and this is the same on modern aerial photographs.(1-3)
