  • LYNCHET (Medieval - 1066 AD to 1539 AD)

Description

Lynchets of probable medieval date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on Aston Hill, north of Daniel’s Hole, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89162 10452. Two short stretches of lynchets are visible on lidar visualisation; land use in 1945 appears to be scrubby woodland and modern land use is also woodland although it is within a golf course on modern aerial photographs. The earthworks are 36m in length at their longest. (1-2)
