Description

An area of small extractive pits of probable post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on Aston Hill, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 88688 10563. The pits cover an area approximately 170x90m at its largest and the pits appear to be fairly shallow. The underlying solid geology is Holywell Nodular Chalk, mainly used for clunch, lime and flint. (1-3)
