Description
Evaluation trial trenching by Network Archaeology in January 2013 in advance of proposed construction of a maintenance compound to the north of the school sports ground, identified the truncated remains of an undated recut ditch and and undated posthole, beneath modern made ground layers. The ditch (in trench 1) was aligned NW-SE, at least 2.25m long, 1.5m wide and 0.4m deep, with sloping sides and concave base and was interpreted as a boundary ditch; the recut was on the same alignment, 1.2m wide and 0.36m deep with gently sloping sides and a concave base. The posthole (in trench 4) was circular, 0.37m in diameter and 0.12m deep, with vertical sides and a flat base. See report for detail (B4).
2003 APs appear to show ground reduction works in progress across the whole compound.
