Description
Pre-inclosure field boundaries of medieval and/or early post-medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located within a parliamentary field to the W of The Old Mill and centred at SP 87376 21700, a curving ditch up to 4 metres wide extends about 136 metres from the mill and curves round to join the road, forming a small subcircular enclosure about 67 metres in diameter at its widest. From this, two curvilinear ditches up to 2 metres wide and 265 metres long diverge to the W and link to surviving pre-inclosure field boundaries. These features are not recorded on the 1st Edition OS map and so pre-date the inclosure of the parish in 1797. On aerial photographs taken in 2015-2019 and recent remote sensing data, the features appear to have been levelled and are not visible (1-3).
