Description

A possible former chalk pit of post medieval/modern date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located north west of Astonhill Coppice, within the, Aston Clinton and centred at SP 88929 10721. An irregular shaped hollow of a possible former chalk pit, or maybe a bunker on the golf course, now Chiltern Forest Golf Club, measuring 57x49m at its largest and cut in to cut in to Holywell Nodular Chalk Formation, exploited for clunch, lime and flint.(1-5)
