Description

Watermeadows of post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located south west of the motte and baliey at Weston Turville and centred at SP 85806 10070. Straight ditches crossed, by sinuous and straight waterchannels, forming a watermeadow in five sections cover the area of fields along the unnamed watercourse flowing from Weston Turville Reservoir at the foot of the Chiltern Escarpment. These earthworks overlie the medieval earthworks of a pleasance (MBC47218) associated with the motte and bailey at Weston Turville. The water meadows are likely earlier than the largest drainage channel which appears to override the channels for the watermeadows; this water channel is crossed by a small bridge. Modern land use is pasture and trees have been planted over part of the earthworks.(1-5)
