Description

Earthwork banks of probable medieval/post medieval date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Ballad's Wood and Tatnall's Wood, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89317 09326. Linear earthworks, possibly of former woodland boundaries or field boundaries that existed before the woodland. The woodlands also contain trackways and chalkpits which may be associated with these linear features. Land use in 1945 is scrubby woodland and modern land use is woodland, on the edge of Dancersend SSSI, noted for unimproved chalk grassland, scrub, coppiced and regenerating woodland and plantations.
