Description
Field boundaries or lynchets of possible Iron Age date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Bradnidge Wood, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89776 09306. These field boundaries consist of narrow earthwork banks, approximately 2-4m in width, along the contours of the slope. They are crossed by ditches and trackways within the woodland, which is part of the Dancersend SSSI, noted for unimproved chalk grassland, scrub, coppiced and regenerating woodland and plantations. Small subcircular chalk pits have also been cut in to the earthworks in places. Some of the earthworks form part of the boundaries of the woodland but it is not clear if these were existing features reused to form the boundaries or constructed when the woodland was created.
