Description

A boundary bank of uncertain date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Halton Woods, Halton, and centred at SP 88545 08718. This linear bank extends for a total length of approximately 700m and is between 3-5m in width. It is crossed by later ditches and trackways is sited towards the top of the chalk escarpment. It is not visible on aerial photographs because land use is and was woodland; it is likely that this area has been continuously wooded since the late prehistoric and field boundaries surrounding the Iron Age Hillfort, Boddington Camp (MBC4853), at the southern end of the ridge, can also be seen on lidar visualisations. Modern land use is as a country park managed by Forestry England. (1-5)
