Description

The northern end of a trackway of probable medieval/post medieval date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located east of Boddington Camp, Halton Wood, Halton, on the southern edge of the project area, and centred at SP 88490 08034. This trackway is visible as two parallel ditches following a sinuous line to the current edge of the woodland, at SP 488404 207678, where it joins an arable field, and no further sign is visible. This trackway is not shown on Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 mapping or on the Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing for High Wycombe, drawn 1812 or on the Epoch 1 Ordnance Survey map. The ditches are 6-8m apart branch to the south from a trackway which remain in use and on modern mapping, within Wendover Woods. Land use in 1945 was woodland and part of the trackway can be seen between the trees in one area. It was a conifer plantation on modern aerial photographs cleared after 2011. The trackway does not form a woodland boundary.
