PALEOLITHIC & NEOLITHIC IMPLEMENTS FOUND AT VARIOUS TIMES IN BURNHAM BEECHES (NO CLOSER PROVENANCE) (B1-6).



(SU 9585 ). Palaeolithic implements found in the general area of Burnham Beeches comprise:- 411 hand axes and 14 roughouts, 2 cores, 49 retouched and 101 unretouched flakes, and 9 worked fragments. Most are in the BM but others are distributed in Aylesbury, Cambridge (A & E) Hull, Ashmolean, Oxford University and York Cottage Sandringham museums (B9).

General Area of Burnham Beeches.
Bucks County Museum, Pa Index, lists the following finds and their locations.
Ashmolean Museum:- 6 hand axes from the Campbell-Thompson Bequest. Acc Nos 1941: 886 & 889, 194: 883, 1955. 66 a-c.
British Museum:- (Lacaille Colln) 84 hand axes, including 18 Acheulian type, 81 flakes, including 28 of Clactonian type, and 2 cores, Acc Nosfor four axes are:- 1940. 4.8.1.& 1944 2.7.3.
Oxford University Museum:- Unspecified No in O Roe's Burnham Beeches List of material in Treacher Coll'n.
Buck County Museum:- 1 hand axe Acc No 547.05, and 1 flake found 1934 Acc No 38.62. 2 flakes from F Underhills coll'n are also held.
Other Pa material from this area is in the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow (B10)
