Description
A chalk pit of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Halton Wood, Halton, and centred at SP 88684 09539. The pit is subcircular and measures 15m across at its largest. It is cut in to Holywell Nodular Chalk Formation, mainly used for clunch, flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows woodland, but the aerial photograph is not clear enough to show the pits, and modern land use is woodland. (1-4)
