Description

A chalk pit of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located east of Round Spring Wood, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89985 09558. The pit is sub circular and measure approximately 7m across and lies within the boundaries of the Dancersend SSSI, Notified in 1951 for unimproved chalk grassland, scrub, regenerating woodland and plantations. The pit is are cut in to Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows scrubland and modern land use is the same.
