Description
A chalk pits of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located west of Bittam's Wood, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89832 09122. The pit is sub circular and measures approximately 11m across. It is cut in to Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows scrubland and modern land use is pasture. The pit is not visible on aerial photographs due to vegetation and lighting conditions. (1-4)
