Description
A chalk pit of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 240m south west of Aston Hill Farm, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89246 09721. The pit is sub circular and measures approximately 18m across. It is cut in to Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows pasture and modern land use is the same. The earthworks on lidar visualisations appear to be smoothed, compared to others which are less vegetated in the woodland. (1-4)
