Description
Two chalk pits of probable post medieval/modern date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Halton Wood, Halton, and centred at SP 88822 08399. The pits are irregular shaped and measure approximately 23x11m and 15x9m at their largest. They are cut in to Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows open woodland and modern land use is woodland. (1-4)
