Description
Chalk pits of probable post medieval/modern date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Bradnidge Wood, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89577 09368. The pits are sub circular and they range in size from 5-8m across and a network of trackways run through the woodland. They are cut in to Holywell Nodular Chalk Formation, mainly used for clunch, flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows open woodland and modern land use is woodland. It is next to but not part of the Dancersend SSSI. (1-4)
