Description
Two chalk pits of probable post medieval/modern date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Tatnall's Wood, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89325 09246. The pits are sub circular and they measure approximately between 5-8m across. They are cut in to Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows open woodland and modern land use is woodland. It is next to but not part of the Dancersend SSSI. (1-4)
