Description
A line of three chalk pits of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Tatnall's Wood, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89339 09107. The pits are sub circular, two are joined in to a figure eight shape overall, they measure approximately between 5-18m across and a trackway runs along the west side. They are cut in to Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows open woodland and modern land use is woodland. It is next to but not part of the Dancersend SSSI. (1-4)
