Description
A chalk pit of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Halton Woods, Halton, and centred at SP 89079 08797. The pit is sub circular and approximately 9m across and is cut in to Lewes Nodular Chalk, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows cleared woodland, possibly as a result of timber supplied for the trenches in World War I, and modern land use is woodland. (1-5)
