Monument record MBC46724 - Chalk pits north of Southpark House, Aston Clinton

Three chalk pits of probable post medieval/modern date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in pasture north of Southpark House, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89855 08939. The pits are sub circular in shape and approximately 11m across at their largest. They are cut in to Superficial Deposits of Clay with Flints which overlie Lewes Nodular Chalk, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows pasture and modern land use is pasture; the earthworks are not clear on the photos because of lighting conditions. (1-4)
