Description
A group of six chalk pits of probable post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in Hengrove Wood, Aston Clinton, and centred at SP 89745 08304. The pits are sub circular and oval in shape and range in size from 7-20m across at their largest. They are cut in to Superficial Deposits of Clay with Flints which overlie Lewes Nodular Chalk, mainly used for flint and lime. Land use in 1945 shows woodland and modern land use is woodland. (1-3)
