Description

A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 78 metres E of Union Chapel, Littleworth and centred at SP 88338 23116, the irregularly shaped extractive site is about 74 metres in diameter at its widest and 2,472 square metres in area. Aerial photographs taken in 1961 shows the earthwork features in the field, but with evidence of development just beginning which, by 1976, has become a residential development called Wantage Crescent. On aerial photographs taken in 2019, the extractive pit is no longer visible (1-4).
