Description
A Second World War bomb crater is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located adjacent the road between Wing village and Mentmore crossroads and centred at SP 88695 21555, the circular bomb crater is about 9.5 metres in diameter, and is the middle crater in a string of three bomb impacts aligned NW-SW. These are likely to be the bombs were dropped around Wing Park Farm on the night of 1st October 1940. Visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1944, on aerial photographs taken in 2022 and recent remote sensing data the crater has been levelled and is no longer visible (1-4).
