Description
A linear trackway and boundary ditch of probable medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located across two fields about 255 metres NW of Lower Wingbury Farm and centred at SP 87539 21211, a double ditch about 1.5 metres wide and separated by between 2 and 3 metres, extends 305 metres SW-NE from SP 87470 21086 to SP 87625 21348. Running parallel to the W side is a linear ditch about 1 metre wide that extends 186 metres SW-NE. These feature do not mirror any of the post-medieval field boundaries or block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, though one block abuts the boundary ditch to the west. They do, however, align to further linear boundary ditches or rectilinear enclosures in the next field some 100 metres to the NE. On aerial photographs taken in 2015-2019 and recent remote sensing data, only one-third of these linear ditches remain visible as earthworks (1-2).
