Description
A group of small extractive pits of post medieval/modern date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on outside the northern edge of the Iron Age Hillfort, Boddington Camp, Wendover, and centred at SP 88473 08246. The pits are approximately oval in shape and between 7-11m in length and up to 7m wide. These are cut in to solid geology of Lewes Nodular Chalk foundation, mainly used for lime and flint nodules. Area was wooded in 1945 on aerial photographs and modern land use continues as woodland, managed by Forestry England, and earthworks were recorded from lidar visualisations. (1-2)
