Description
A Second World War bomb crater is visible on historic aerial photographs as an earthwork and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 107 metres SSW of Mentmore Cross Roads and centred at SP 88957 20510, a circular earthwork is about 14.5 metres in diameter. A second bomb crater lies about 140 metres to the WNW. Presumably these are German bombs, possibly dropped in an attempt to target the adjacent crossroads. The earthwork remains visible in 1976 but has been filled in and levelled by 2003. On aerial photographs taken in 2022, there is no evidence of the crater (1-4).
