Description

NO PALAEOLITHS RECORDED FROM THIS BRICKEARTH, BUT 20 IN TREACHER COLLECTION MARKED POYLE OR POYLE ROAD . 7 ARE SHARP, SO RARE FROM BURNHAM BOYN HILL GRAVELS THAT THEY PROBABLY CAME FROM ANOTHER PROVENANCE, POSSIBLY THIS BRICKEARTH. 6 AXES & 1 FLAKE DESCRIBED (B4-5).




SU 925835 A Palaeolithic handaxe from Poyle, Burnham is in Oxford University Museum (B12).

Six handaxes and a primary flake have been found at Poyle where old workings are marked on the OS maps (shown as 'Brickworks' on Prov 6" but not on 1st Edn 6") at c SU 925838. All are in Oxford University Museum (Treacher Colln). (B5)
