- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD? to 1798 AD?)
Description
A post medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located adjacent Dudley Bridge and centred at SP 66951 33398, an irregularly shaped gravel pit covers an area of about 3,072 square metres. Nearby are extraction sites identified as an ‘old gravel pit’ on the 1881 dated 1st Edition OS map, so it is likely that this was gravel extraction too (1-2).
