Description

A possible post-medieval coprolite working pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located at the north end of Rammamere Heath and centred at SP 92009 30416, the irregularly shaped extractive pit is about 430 square metres in area. Documentary evidence indicates that in addition to the nearby Great Brickhill coprolite workings, the owners Messrs Morris and Griffin continued to work the local coprolite deposits. Coprolite extraction was reported in operation at ‘rammy mare field’ during the late 1880s and continued undocumented until the seams had been exhausted (1-3).
