- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
A post medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field immediately adjacent Middle Salden Wood and centred at SP 82790 30751, an irregularly shaped extractive pit is about 904 square metres in area and sits within a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. On recent remote sensing data, the feature remains visible, but aerial photographs taken in 2019 show that the extraction site is now covered by woodland cover (1-3).
