Description

A possible medieval settlement platform and boundary ditch is visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a close in Stewkley village and centred at SP 84916 26570, a ditch up to 3.5 metres wide forms three sides of a rectilinear enclosure, with the fourth side being an extant property boundary. This encloses a rectilinear platform about 35.5 x 17 metres. On aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data, residential housing in Sycamore Close now occupies the location and the features are no longer visible (1-3).
